The grocery stores can only sell beers, ciders and other drinks with less than 4,7 abv. Vinmonopolet is the only store allowed to sell drinks with a higher alcohol content. You can find Vinmonopolet in Stryn (15 minutes away by car). The stores are not allowed to sell drinks after 20:00 on weekdays and 18:00 on Saturday. No alcohol can be sold on Sundays and other holidays. Drinking in public (like on the streets or in parks) is not permitted.

When buying a bottle or can, you pay a 2 or 3 kroner deposit (3 kroner for the 1,5 litre bottles). This is to ensure that they will be brought back. You can bring them to any store that sells drinks, and you will get the deposit back. Most stores will have "reverse vending machines" where you put bottles in and get money back. Over 92 percent of bottles and cans are recycled in Norway.
