Briksdalsbreen

The Briksdal Glacier is a west-facing arm of the Jostedal Glacier, the biggest glacier in continental Europe. It is designated as a national park. The glacier was formed around 2500 years ago. The area of the glacier is about 10,4 square kilometers. Most (88%) is located on the glacial plateau over 1500 metres above sea level. The glacier stretches from 1910 metres above sea level, down to the Briksdal water at 350 metres.

The ice has formed the Briksdal Valley through thousands of years; Smooth sanded mountains and lush vegetation characterises the landscape. The mighty nature is among the most beautiful you can find in Norway - and tourists have visited the valley for more than a hundred years.

Briksdalsbre Fjellstove is a mountain lodge located half an hour from Olden. From here, there is an easy 2,6 kilometre walk to the glacier. The hike takes 40-60 minutes and the entire way, you are surrounded by beautiful nature.

Marked in red is the part covered by car, while the hike is marked in orange.
